Planning

The First-Key Ingredient of a Success Formula,

is to develop a holistic perspective, and invest accordingly to acquire and sustain valued strengths.

Success is then determined by the level of planning, strategy and effort you apply.

Planning Stages

The foundation of a Success Formula is to set a trajectory. To create and manage opportunities that move you toward an ultimate goal. Whether it be career development, entrepreneurial aspirations, or organizational mastery, success is determined by the level of planning, strategy and effort you apply.

The planning stage of a Success Formula, consists of 5 elements in the design process and successful implementation. Although each individual's plan will look different, they should all include these elements:

1   Trajectory: What is your Vision?

To set a long-term vision, with ever increasing goals to keep reaching towards. To develop the ability to adapt with changing times, and evolve with a clear development track, especially for newly created opportunities (such as high-tech and online jobs).

The following elements help build your on long-game.

2   Framework: What is your Model?

A competency framework is "multifaceted," in that, it represents different yet simultaneous aspects of professional and organizational development. This framework should broadly effectively provide a blueprint of a set of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behavior, to meet core business mission and performance requirements.

Framework design consists of a number of competencies, on two levels:

1) Core Capability - generically applied to a broad number of roles to meet industry standards.

2) Specialization - to meet specific skill requirements within a targeted organization or sector.

Integrating competency models, strategically to develop and align:

  • Talent: (Role & Responsibility) Core Competencies

  • Leadership: (Secession) Behavior and Performance Management

  • Organization: (Alignment & Growth) Culture and Capability Maturity

3 Competency Mapping: What is in your inventory?

Competency Mapping is the process of identifying the specific knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors required to operate effectively in a specific trade, profession, or job position. Competency maps are also called competency profiles or skills profiles.

Competency Mapping involves:

1) Taking stock of which competencies or characteristics allow you to perform at or above expectations.
1) Identify the skill sets or knowledge critical to performing well in a given role or situation.

2) Target new competencies to develop, that ultimately contribute to your Trajectory and Success Formula.

Competency Maps can benefit each job or opportunity, by aligning demonstrated behaviors and knowledge base to the promoted competency requirements.

4 AlignmentWhat is your strategy? How will you integrate?

Aligning specific competencies to an organizations core mission and function is central to meeting dynamic and results-driven, performance expectations.

Competency Alignment is to match your acquired competencies, Task, related Competencies, and Talent (with the right skills), to perform successfully.

Talent to Organization Alignment:

  • Strategy: Vision, Mission, Goals

  • Leadership: State of Transition, Management Style

  • Culture: Work Ethic, Value System, Synergy, Synergy, Behavior

  • Maturity: (Related) Competency, Capability, Sustainability

  • Performance: Quality, Service Level,

At this point in the Planning Stage, it is highly recommended to take a deep dive into the organization, and assess and measure your talents, skills and goals against the mission, capability and performance.

Use competency alignment as a fundamental building block in planning and implementation.
